Fireside Chat and Simultaneous Exhibition with World Champion Tan Zhongyi

In order to promote exchanges and cooperation among young chess enthusiasts from across the Region, The Future Leader's Initiative organized the "Fireside Chat and Simultaneous Exhibition with World Champion Tan Zhongyi" an exhibition event at the Hong Thai Exhibition and Business Center on the 1st of June 2024. This event was co-organized by the Chongqing Youth Federation and the Hong Kong Elite Association, and also received strong support from the Taiwan Affairs Department of the Liaison Office in Hong Kong.活動大合照 Event Group Photo
「 Speech by Nicholas Tung Chairman of Future Leaders Initiative」

The event invited Mr. Zhang Qiang, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Department of the Liaison Office in Hong Kong, Mr. Hoffman Ma, member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Paul Ng, member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Lawrence Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Elites Association, and Mr. Jason Wong JP, Executive Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Elites Association to officitate the event and members of the Future Leaders Initiative including the Founder and Honorary Chairman Mr. Johnny Kong, Founding Vice Chair and President Mr. Nicholas Tung, Founding Vice Chair Mr. Conrad Ho, Founding Vice Chair Ms. Danielle Hou, and Founding Vice Chair Mr. Justino Liang were also in attendance. During the exchange session, Mr. Conrd Ho, Founding Vice Chair of The Future Leaders Initiative, led a fireside Chat with Ms. Tan Zhongyi, the Former Women's World Chess Champion and Current Women's World Chess Champion Candidate, sharing mang stories about her chess career and the trials and tribulations of her journey to the top. Ms. Tan Zhongyi encouraged all young players in the audience to actively participate in competitions and communicate with players from all over the world in order to improve while hoping that the chess circles in the Mainland and Hong Kong can learn from the experience of international competitions and give more people the opportunity to understand chess. Afterwards, the guests in the audience actively asked questions and learned from Tan Zhongyi, and the atmosphere was extremely lively. 「 表演賽中,前世界棋后譚中怡以1對30進行車輪戰 」
To end the event, Ms. Tan Zhongyi selected 30 chess-lovers by lottery to join her in a simultaneous chess match allowing many young chess enthusiasts to experience first hand what it's like to play a world champion. The simultaneous took over 2 hours to complete and all participants had an opportunity to take a photo with Ms. Tan after the event. 「 Tan Zhongyi: On Preparing for the World Championship Match 」

The 33-year-old Tan Zhongyi is the former Women's World Chess Champion and current Women's World Chess Champion Candidate. This is the first time she has participated in chess education activities in Hong Kong. In 2017, Tan Zhongyi defeated Ukrainian star Grandmaster Anna Muzychuk in the final of the Women's World Chess Championship in Tehran, Iran. Tan Zhongyi is an aggressively-styled chess player known for her ferocious attacks.
